THE MOST EXCITING MOMENT IN THE YEAR: THE OLIVE HARVEST IN NOVEMBER

 

Program of the special week

 

November, 2 - 8  November, 9 - 15 

November, 16 - 21

Day 1
Arrive at International Airport of Rome (Roma Fiumicino) where you will be met and taken by car or minibus to Tuscania. Dinner at Casa Caponetti.
After dinner a night tour of Tuscania, with a caffè and gelati stop.

Day 2
Morning: olive picking (*).  Lunch.
After lunch a walk around the Casa Caponetti estate to visit the private etruscan necropolis, through the olive grove and the meadows  During the walk, gathering of wild herbs, fruits and vegetables in season.     Cooking lesson  focused on the use of olive oil  followed by dinner.
After dinner talk about the history and tradition of Olive oil in Italy: from the Etruscans and Romans to nowadays. 

Day 3
Morning: olive picking (*).  Lunch.  
Afternoon: visit to the oil mills in  Tuscania and Marta by the Lake of Bolsena. Dinner in a tipical "trattoria" 

 

 

 

One of the afternoons will be spent to take the harvested olives to the mill in Bagnoregio - one of the best in the area - to process the olives and get the freshly made olive oil.

Day 4
Morning: olive picking (*). Lunch at Casa Caponetti including tasting local cheeses, hams, sausages and particularly "ricotta".
Afternoon: visit to the "Cantina di Montefiascone" and tasting of the Est Est Est wine. Dinner with a talk about wine and olive oil.

Day 5

 

Morning: olive picking (*). Late morning: relaxing visit to the thermal spa of the Terme dei Papi, to swim in the wonderful pool where once the Romans and the Popes used to bathe. On to Viterbo, via an ancient Etruscan road carved in the tufa rock, and to its medieval town center. Lunch in a typical restaurant.


Siesta at home followed by  cooking class and dinner.

Day 6
Morning: shopping in an open market and visit to the pottery in Tuscania. Quick cooking lesson followed by lunch.
Afternoon: a two-hour cooking lesson to preserve  olives to take home.

Day 7
Morning dedicated to recipe gathering. Farewell lunch.
Afternoon: departure to Rome.

Included: transfers from/to the airport; all the meals and beverages (also wines); sightseeings; 5 litres of extra virgin organic just made olive oil, in the stainless steel drum; the terra cotta handmade jar. 

 

 (*) olive picking takes up a couple of hours a day. No problem giving up if you are tired!
